During her morning press conference, she addressed questions about Mexico’s participation in the inaugurations of Nicolas Maduro in Caracas and Donald Trump in Washington.

“In the first case, either a delegation or our ambassador to Venezuela, Leopoldo de Gyves, will attend. In the second case, as I understand it, invitations have not yet been issued—not just to Mexico but in general.”

At the previous swearing-in of Nicolas Maduro in 2019, then-Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador sent the charge d’affaires of the Mexican embassy, Juan Manuel Nungaray.

The text reads, “Belarus confirms participation in President Nicolas Maduro’s inauguration on Jan. 10.”

Regarding the legitimacy of the elected Venezuelan government, Sheinbaum stated on October 15 that Mexico supports the self-determination of nations. “Colombia, Brazil, and the U.S. have their own positions. Our position is the constitutional one: the self-determination of peoples,” she said.

On January 10, Nicolas Maduro will be sworn in before the National Assembly as President of Venezuela for the constitutional term 2025–2031.

On Monday, Colombian President Gustavo Petro indicated that he is still evaluating who will represent Colombia at Maduro’s inauguration, although it is initially expected to be a delegation led by the ambassador to Caracas, Milton Rengifo.
